Interior designers in Colombo
Interiors for offices, homes and guest villas, designed with the building or on their own: from a show flat in the World Trade Centre to office floors across Colombo.
Workplaces
For Port City BPO at the Aitken Spence head office on Vauxhall Street we designed a reception against a ribbed timber wall, open floors of workstations, soft seating and planting in the breakout areas, and stone-clad walls along the corridors. The MAS Holdings corporate office, on the tenth floor of the Aitken Spence Building, has warm timber floors and wall panelling, glass-walled offices and meeting rooms, and a long boardroom table under a quiet ceiling.
At Biyagama a red running track cuts through the whole of the MAS Linea Intimo biomechanics hub, past open workstations, glass-walled meeting rooms, a timber-floored café and a fitting room. We have also revamped the UNFPA office at Thummulla and refurbished the ground floor of the MAS Solution Centre in Battaramulla.
A show flat in three months
The Keppel CT show flat was executed in three months under World Trade Centre site rules, during the main building construction. Every finish, every joint, every piece of joinery had to read as final, and the sample items used in the build became the finished pieces.
Homes and villas
At Kohuwala the interior is deliberately spare: white walls, clean joinery, and a timber stair and handrail that do most of the warmth. At Villa 82 new and old furniture sit together over cement floors, with timber detailing, quiet white plaster and low light: a limited palette, used consistently, so the new and the old sit together without either trying to win.
Interiors with the architecture
Where we design the building, we often design its interiors too. At the Vidiyal factory in Kilinochchi, white painted plaster, translucent mirrored glass, stretch membrane ceilings and white powder-coated steel sit over hard-wearing cut cement floors, and strip lighting and hanging pendants make the workspace warmer and more communal than a factory usually feels.
